First identify whether you are using Chat or Work. Work shares allowance with Codex; Chat model limits and uploads can have separate restrictions. Follow the specific notice you see.

- Record the selected model, account and workspace. A different workspace may have different access.
- Use the recovery time in the product, if one is shown. Save that exact time in your reset timer.

Choose the situation that matches
A model or message notice
Read the model name and recovery time in the notice. If another model is offered, check its suitability before continuing; do not assume it has the same capabilities.
Work or Codex stopped
Open Settings → Usage and inspect the shared windows. Follow the Work / Codex checklist below.
Only attachments fail
Use the upload checklist. A file restriction should not be treated as proof that your message allowance is exhausted.
Check the result
Return to the affected feature and try one appropriate request. If it works, resume gradually. If it fails, compare the new notice with the original before repeating a step.
Still blocked?
Prepare the exact error, affected feature, app or browser version, account workspace, and date with timezone. Send these only through the provider’s official support channel; omit passwords, keys and private content that is not needed.

Will a new conversation restore my allowance?
Do not treat a new conversation as an allowance reset. Check the account-level notice.
Can I use an API key instead?
API usage has separate billing and limits. It is not a way to redeem your ChatGPT subscription allowance.
